Dear Participant,

We are happy to welcome you to the 6^th International Conference on Biocatalysis in Non-Conventional Media (BNCM 2021).

Starting in the eighties, biocatalysis in non-conventional media has made new powerful and sustainable synthetic strategies available for the preparation of compounds of interest for the agri-food, pharmaceutical, and polymers industries.

Even though the use of biocatalysts in non-conventional media might be considered a niche of biocatalysis, it has been growing as an area of fundamental and applied research thanks to the identification of:

i)  new enzymes, more stable toward the organic media,

ii) new enzyme formulations, that evolved from crude enzyme powders to immobilized enzymes on various types of nanostructured supports,

iii) new types of non-conventional media, moving from “classical” organic solvents to green solvents and even more to solvent-free systems, from ionic liquids to deep eutectic solvents,

iv) new reaction setup, as those developed in flow-chemistry systems.

Plenary lectures, oral and poster communications that will be delivered in the next days well represent all the above-mentioned subjects, thus making this conference a meeting at the forefront of innovation as well as a source of inspiration toward “non-conventional environments” in biocatalysis.

Thanks to the participation of industrial and academic experts, BNCM2021 will provide a unique opportunity to share experiences and interests, and to improve our knowledge in this area of research through multidisciplinary contributions.
