Fernando López-Gallego is IKERBASQUE Professor at the University of Zaragoza. After obtaining her PhD at the University Autonoma of Madrid, he did a post-doc in the laboratory of Prof. Schmidt-Danner at University of Minnesota about metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. After working in industry for 1 year as technologist at its REPSOL Technolgy Center in Madrid, in 2014 he was awarded with an IKERBASQUE fellow grant to start his independent career at CIC biomaGUNE in Donostia-San Sebastian. From 2017-2019 was Senior researcher at the University of Zaragoza and since October 2019, he is IKERBASQUE research professor back in CIC biomaGUNE. His main research falls in the emerging field of in vitro metabolic engineering integrating biological machineries to advanced materials to fabricate multi-functional heterogeneous biocatalysts for different biotechnological applications. He is currently exploiting the power of enzymes in chemical manufacturing, energy production and bioremediation.
