Andres R. Alcantara studied chemistry and received his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Córdoba, Spain, in 1989. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of Kent at Canterbury, U.K., he joined the Department of Chemistry in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he is Full Professor in Organic Chemistry and co-director of the R&D Group of Biotechnology and Applied Materials (TRANSBIOMAT).
Currently he is Member of the Scientific Committee of European Society of Applied Biocatalysis (ESAB ), and member of the Board of SusChem, the European platform of Sustainable Chemistry. Additionally, he is Associate Editor of the Journal “Biocatalysis and Biotransformation”, as well as member of the Editorial Board of the Journals “Current Green Chemistry”, “Catalysts” and “Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Design”.
